Painting A Winter Seascape In Watercolour

The snow has been falling here in Victoria! We’ve got ice crystals on the harbour and a white blanket is covering the boat. The diesel stove is keeping us snug and warm, so I curled up to create a little winter watercolour seascape. I’ve put together a video tutorial- it’s in real time so you can paint along.

Watercolour of a winter seascape with snowy trees

You will need:

Watercolour paper- I’m using cold-press Fabriano Artistico. Choose a cold-press paper with a gentle tooth/ texture.

Watercolour paints- a cool red, a primary red, a cool green and a deep blue. I’m using Quinacridone Magenta (substiture Alizarin Crimson or Pyrrol Crimson), Pyrrol Red (substitute Winsor Red, Spectrum Red), Phthalo Green (Blue Shade) (substitute Viridian), and Indigo (substitute Indanthrone blue or mix your own deep blue).

Gold paint, ink or gel pen for the star (I’m using Dr Ph. Martin’s Iridescent Copper Plate Gold ink)

A small and medium watercolour brush

A pencil

Water pot

Scrap paper for colour trials

Paint along with the video below! You can ask questions or give feedback in the comments! And tag me @AndreaEnglandArt if you share your creations on social media so I can see!
